The National One Child One Hope (OCOH) Education Scholarship is the first programme of its kind, founded with the purpose of ensuring equal access to quality early childhood education. The early years of a child’s life are the most important, with regards to growth and development, more so in the area of care and education. Research has proven that children who are given quality preschool education undergo a spectrum of learning experiences which encourage them to be confident, excited, and interested in the learning process, which in turn nurtures them to be world-class citizens.
OCOH was established in line with Smart Reader® Worldwide’s and Association of Professional Early Childhood Providers (APECP), Malaysia’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. Founded in December 2007, APECP provides a platform to share ideas, innovation, and new research in Early Childhood Education. The Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Hajjah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil currently serves as its royal patron.
The OCOH programme has funded more than 600 less fortunate children nationwide for their preschool education. Each child in the programme will receive complete education benefits, including the provision of school fees, uniforms, shoes, school bags, books, worksheets, and various other learning materials. More than RM2,500,000 worth of scholarships had been distributed nationwide and through numerous charity establishments such as Yayasan Sultan Kelantan Darul Naim, Yayasan Tuanku Syed Putra, and Yayasan Diraja Sultan Mizan. Furthermore, this scholarship has received great support from DYTM Raja Muda Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, who is also the chairman of Yayasan Tuanku Syed Putra.
To date, Smart Reader® Worldwide had also organised various fund-raising events. From its record-breaking (as recognised by the Malaysian Book of Records) grand charity concert in 2012 to the exciting family cycle-and-run event in 2019, the team succeeded in attracting public contribution to the cause, and raising public awareness on the challenges faced by the underprivileged community in obtaining proper education. Datin Sri Dato’ Dr. KH Wang is passionate about these efforts to ensure equal access to education for all.
“It is crucial for children to learn early in order to mould their character and give them a diverse experience of learning and adopting the social skills which are necessary for a successful school career”.
“We are truly delighted to see the accomplishment from the scholarship awardees after they enrol in Smart Reader Kids®, with full praise from their parents. These success stories and words of encouragement inspire us to bring the programme to greater heights so more can benefit from it”.
